Research shows we typically eat more than 500 sugar calories a day, which can lead to a slew of health woes. But making a few lifestyle changes can stop the the sugar monster in its tracks! Follow these steps to weight loss:
1-Try to eat less meat. Surprising but true: Too much protein overloads your liver and stimulates excess insulin production, which can cause a spike and crash in your blood sugar levels that makes you want more sweets! The simple solution is to cut back to no more than four ounces of meat daily.
2-Have THIS before dessert: FIBER! Completely depriving yourself of the sweets you love will only make you more likely to binge on them in the future. So, have that fudge cake for dessert – just make sure to eat a fiber rich meal beforehand; one that includes, say, a slice of whole grain bread and a cup or more of fruit and vegetables. Fiber slows the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream, so you can cheat a little on dessert without worrying that it will trigger spikes in blood sugar and cravings for more.
3-Indulge in a massage. There is a scientific reason why eating sweets helps fatigue disappear: It raises levels of the energy-boosting brain chemical dopamine. But there is a much healthier way to achieve the same results- get someone to give you a back rub. Studies show regular massages can increase dopamine levels by 31%! Giving yourself a hand or foot rub, or cuddling with a pet, works too.
4- Check food labels to be sure that barbeque sauce, salad dressing, hot dogs or other meats, cereal and juice drinks aren’t loaded with sugar. Look for corn syrup and ingredients with “ose” at the end. Glucose, fructose, dextrose, lactose, and maltose all spell “sugar”.
5- B12 gives you a great energy boost. While this may not take off the pounds in itself, it can get you up and moving. Many people donâ??t exercise because theyâ??re just too tired at the end of a long day. With this extra energy, you can go to the gym or even just take a walk around the block. Plus, if you find your energy level dragging between shots, you can get more B12 in your diet to keep yourself going.

how should i go about kicking my sugar addiction to lose weight?
i’m 17, 5’3″ and 138 pounds. i think i’m overweight maybe by a few pounds and want to shed down. im struggling tho cause i LOVE sugar. ice cream is my weakness. i enjoy working out and eating healthy (ew to pop, fatty meats, chips, fries…ect…) but i spoil myself with ice cream daily. my idea was to slowly transition from one sugary thing to a less sugary thing….like ice cream to sugary cereals (reese’s puffs or captain crunch.) and then sugary cereals to something a little healthier like granola bars and nutrigrain bars? and eventually making my way to fruit, and then just lowering how much fruit so i dont engorge myself in the sugars. what do you think? should i try a different way? ive tried cutting way back on sugars and not eating any sort of real sugary foods and just tried fruits….but then i got all agitated and my cravings kicked in since my body is kind of use to the ice cream i have each night after supper. it was like going into withdrawl lol. but yeah what are your thoughts?

well its defiantly hard. but ask yourself this whenever you reach for that tub of icecream, do you REALLY want to lose weight? or are you more interested in the icecream. are you going to REGRET eating the icecream afterwards? its a matter of self discipline. honestly, you have to know your limits. your way is good i guess..just you have to contorl yourself in order to reach specific goals. good luck.

It is hard because there is sugar hidden in everything. Replacing the processed sugar with natural sugars like fruit is a good start. The best thing to do is keep it out of the house and limit access. You can also schedule splurges but watch the portion. A true portion of ice cream is 1/2 cup… not very much, but if you take small bites and savour it instead of a large ‘over-portion’, that might be enough to keep the cravings at bay.

Used to be the same for sweet things, I eased up on them and if you can resist long enough you get happy enough to only spoil yourself very occasionally, in fact those glass counters loaded with sweet cakes etc, start to look unattractive.

138 is slightly overweight for 5’3, but not bad. You could lose about 10 pounds, but that’s it. It’s great that you’re icecream-crazy, that makes things easier. You can actually lose weight and still have daily icecream to ward off sugar cravings. See, what you do is buy weight watchers or skinny cow icecream, which is low fat and low calorie, and then you can have one of the icecream bars a day and it doesn’t count as junk food, but it tastes nice.
On top of that, try to get in 45 minutes of exercise per day, such as walking or jogging, biking, swimming, yoga/pilates, hiking, dance, whatever you like. Also, limit your intake of junk food and fast food (weight watchers icecreams don’t count, as long as you keep it at one a day). You can have a splurge where you go get a treat once per week, as a reward for eating healthy on all the other days of the week. However, the key to all this is the exercise. You should lose some weight, just keep your caloric intake at like 1,700 a day, and after you do lose all you want to, up it to 2,000

I wasn’t raised on desert after dinner as a part of my life style. Deserts were always a luxury after I participated on making home made short cakes, whipping cream and sliced strawberries on Sundays.
Truly, I don’t get the desert culture thing. So, I can only tell you my point of view. I eat home made ice cream that I’ve made whenever I choose to, but not every day. Just once in a while in the middle of the day and its just one serving that I savor and then I have a mental stop sign.
I really like sliced fresh pineapples with a sprinkling of Celtic Salt Crystals and a dash of New Mexican Sweet Chile powder for the sweet and sour on a hot summer day. The pineapple is loaded with an enzyme that makes you lose weight.
I also suggest sliced oranges and grapefruit without anything added, because its loaded with calcium and vitamin C and is naturally sweet but full of fiber.
Ice cream is very fattening if you keep it up, so just stop the deserts and have it once a week.

I like ice cream too. I have been eating I think its called, Dryers Slow Turn, it has less than half the sugar of other ice cream but you would never know.
My girl friend is 5’4″ and weighs like 103 lb most of it is on her chest. She is really little minus the chest region. I hope you don’t use women like her as your standard. Most people would not be healthy at such weight. So more than anything else keep yourself health and be realistic. Good luck with kicking the sugar habit and cutting a few pounds. Staying health is much easier than trying to lose the weight later in life.

first you need to eat alot of good food to satisfy your hunger. eat lots of green veggies to fill you up. drink diet soda. don’t let anyone tell you diet sodas are bad for you, they aren’t. also snack on sugar free jello.
eventually, as you get healthy eating and eating ENOUGH food during the day, you will kick your sugar habit. you will begin to get your taste buds back as well. i can taste the sweetness in veggies now! its pretty weird how we regain our taste buds.
you will experience withdrawals. its normal, its just how you deal with them.

Hi, Again! I think that you have a better chance of losing the weight you want to lose if you just try to control your sugar cravings instead of eliminate them. When you feel deprived, you’re more likely to blow the whole diet. Substitute your current sweets for something that is portion controlled and lower in fat and calories. Skinny Cow round ice cream sandwiches and Weight Watchers Giant Fudge bars are fantastic. Allow yourself no more than one small sweet treat a day. Save it for that part of the day that you will enjoy it the most. Look forward to it and savor every bite.
I think your transition idea for breakfast cereal, etc. is a good one. I’m going to link you to a page about sugar, that may make you pause…Good luck!
